MapInfo Professional: Level 4 Integration (Database Triggers) Workspace Configuration
Setting up a MapInfo Workspace for Level 4 Integration with myData
When setting up a MapInfo Workspace to facilitate feature editing when using Level 4 Integration between MapInfo and myData, Assetic recommends the following configuration.
Adding Layers to a Workspace
Add all layers that you want to appear in your workspace.
This will include layers from a SQL Server database for any asset categories that have been set up for integration with myData, and possibly TAB files if there are any non-database layers you would like to include in your workspace (note that standalone TAB files cannot be integrated with myData).
To add layers from SQL Server, you will first need to set up a DSN connection to your database.
Creating a New DSN Connection
- Go to File > Open DBMS Connection... or click on the Open DBMS Table button
.
- This will open the Select Data Source dialogue - click on New.. to create a new DSN.
- Select the appropriate SQL Server driver and click 'Next'.
- Enter a name for your data source and click 'Next'.
- This will bring you to the end of the Create New Data Source wizard. Click finish to begin the Create a New Data Source to SQL Server Wizard. Here you can enter a Description for your data source and enter the details for the Server you want to connect to and click 'Next'.
- Select the relevant authentication method for your database and click 'Next'.
- Change the Default Database to your GIS database and click 'Next'.
- Click Finish to complete the wizard and open the ODBC Microsoft SQL Server Setup dialogue. Click Test Data Source... to ensure that you can successfully connect to the database.
Adding Spatial Layers from SQL Server to a MapInfo Workspace
- To add SQL Server spatial layers to MapInfo, got to File > Open DBMS Connection... or click on the Open DBMS Table button
.
- This opens the Select Data Source window. Navigate to and double click on the DSN file that connects to your GIS database.
- Highlight the table you want to open and hit Open.
- Use the Column Filter to select the fields you want to expose in MapInfo, choose a MapInfo TAB file location for your table, and select Downloaded Data (Linked Table) as your data option. Assetic recommends using the Downloaded Data option for workspaces set up for integration with myData. Live Access can pose issues with system performance, and database refreshing can't be easily controlled by the user, which may cause unexpected results with integration.
- Once you have added all layers you want to appear, go to File > Save Workspace... to save your workspace.
When you next open this workspace, your layers and database connection settings will be remembered.
